“My name is Paul John Froggatt. I was born and grew up in a small rural town called Dargaville in New Zealand. I was introduced to art by my mother and introduced to Rock’n’roll music by my grandmother who would play Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis songs on the piano. When I was 13 years old I moved to Auckland, the big city , and started my musical group, The Cavemen.

With The Cavemen I moved to England as a youth and have since travelled all over the world and made many records.

I currently reside in Melbourne Australia with my wife and our silky terrier, Bobby.

I have been painting since I was a young child (as most children do) and fortunately my painting form or style hasn’t changed since then.

My favourite art (both visual and musical) is by real people. If art conveys true visceral feeling, I like it.

As a teenager my bedroom walls and ceiling were wallpapered with photocopies of art by both children and patients of mental institutions.

My paintings are inspired by and depict my life, past and current events, people close to me and figures that have influenced, shaped or disturbed me.

All the paintings you are viewing were done in the space of three weeks while I was crippled in bed from knee surgery.

Paul John Froggatt”
